Lipgart fon Ernst Karlovich( (1847, Derpt, Liflyand Guberniya - 1932, Leningrad).
Russian painter, watercolorist and engraver-etcher of German origin, representative of late academicism, teacher and memoirist. Academician of painting (1893) and full member of the Imperial Academy of Arts (1902). Studied painting at the Florence Academy of Arts under Franz von Lenbach and in Paris under Jules Lefebvre. Since 1877, he exhibited his works at the Paris Salon. In 1886, having received an order from the Russian Emperor Alexander III for two paintings, he came to St. Petersburg and stayed there to live. In 1886-1896 he taught decorative painting at the Drawing School of the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts. In 1906-1929 he served as chief curator of the Hermitage Picture Gallery. The author's works are in many museum collections, including the State Tretyakov Gallery and the State Hermitage Museum.
