Oil on canvas, measurements 75 x 51 cm, framed measurements: 83 x 59 cm. Cornellana (Asturias), 1934. Rubén Darío Velázquez was born in Cornellana, Asturias, in 1934. He studied his degree at the Higher School of Fine Arts in Madrid from 1956 to 1962. During that period he also drew in the Casón del Buen Retiro and made copyist at the Prado Museum. In 1957 he opposed the pension for art studies that the Hon. Provincial Council of Asturias convenes every 5 years, being the winner. In 1962, he finished his official studies at the Higher School of Fine Arts. From 1964 to 1980, he developed all his artistic activity in the Canary Islands. In 1972, He is awarded the “Prize of Honor” at the II Regional Biennial of Sports in the Art of Las Palmas for his work “Jinetes” and also the Honor Award for his work “Paso de Pedestrians” at the XVI Regional Biennial of Fine Arts of the same city. In this same year he participated in the last National Fine Arts Festival, held in Madrid, and his work “Grado de General” was acquired for the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid. He exhibits in Stockholm, sponsored by the Ministry of Information and Tourism. In 1986 he was awarded the “Prize of the General Directorate of Fine Arts at the 53rd Salon d'Automne in Madrid, for his painting “Artilugios”, which became part of the collections of the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid. At the 57th Salon d'Automne she was awarded the “Queen Sofía Extraordinary Prize”, highest award from the National Association of Painters and Sculptors. He is selected to participate in the VI Ibero-American Biennial in Mexico.
