[Simeon Polotsky's heraldic and emblematic poem "The Russian eagle" (1667), combining the art of words and images, was composed and presented by the author to Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich on new year's day, September 1, 1667, on the occasion of the official announcement of Tsarevich Alexey Alekseevich as the heir to the throne. The publication contains the first facsimile reproduction of the ceremonial manuscript of the work, transliterated text, research of the creative history of the poem, analysis of its content, composition, poetics, dictionary-commentary, Archeographic description of the surviving manuscripts of the work, illustrations. The "Appendices" section includes texts related to the court ceremony.

 The Russian eagle is a complex literary structure built according to all the rules of "Baroque" literary architectonics. 

The center of the entire structure is a large drawing of a double-headed eagle placed inside the solar disk. The image of the "Russian eagle" is preceded by an explanation, from which it follows that, like the sun of heaven, the Russian Tsar, having received the light of faith from the East, illuminates the entire Christian world with his kindness.]
