[Evgeny Petrovich Karnovich (1823-1885) was a Russian writer and historian who came from an old noble family.

Flighty and eccentric, Grand Duke Konstantin Pavlovich (1779-1831) did not look like the heir to the Russian throne. The son of Emperor Paul I, who was killed by the conspirators, and the brother of Alexander I, he dreamed of leading the life of a private man, refused the Imperial crown even when all of Russia swore an oath to him. What this led to is known. The rebels on the Senate square shouted "Hurrah!" To Konstantin I... Constitutionals. Then there was the uprising in Poland, in which Konstantin Pavlovich also played a not very enviable role. The life of one of the most original representatives of the house of Romanov is vividly and fascinatingly described in the book by E. P. Karnovich.]
