Professor Kuleman, in preparing an essay on trade unions for the Frankfurt Evangelical social Congress of 1894, set out to give as complete a summary of factual material as possible concerning organizations seeking to protect the interests of workers. The Central place in Kuleman's review is occupied by the unions of workers in Germany, but separate chapters are also devoted to the description of national unions of workers in England, France, Austria-Hungary, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland, Italy, other European countries, as well as North America and Australia. Special attention is paid to international unions and unions of entrepreneurs in different countries. Kuleman's work is preceded by a critical Preface by I. Stepanov, addressed to readers of the Russian translation, which explains the scientific context of Kuleman's work. As an Appendix, the book contains public lectures by Werner Sombart (1863 — 1941) on the origin and goals of the trade Union movement, delivered by him to the workers of Breslau, in which the main tasks of trade unions and individual points from the practice of the trade Union movement in Europe at the end of the XIX century are explained in a popular form.
