[Pyotr Isaevich Weinberg (June 16 (28), 1831, Nikolaev — July 3 (16), 1908, Saint Petersburg) was a Russian poet, translator, and literary historian.

Born in Nikolaev in the family of a merchant of the second Guild Isai Semyonovich (wolfovich) Weinberg (1791-1865) and Rosa (Raisa) Abramovna Weinberg. His father-from a Jewish merchant family that settled in Odessa in 1815-went bankrupt and moved to Nikolaev in 1825. The parents converted to Orthodoxy in 1830, a year before their son was born. In 1831, they returned to Odessa, and on April 14, 1833, my father took up the position of public notary, in which he remained until the end of his life. 

He was brought up in 1835 in the boarding school Of V. A. Zolotov, then in the gymnasium at the Richelieu Lyceum (from 1841), later at the law faculty of the Richelieu Lyceum; in 1850, he entered the historical and philological faculty of Kharkiv University, where he finished the course.

He made his debut in print as a student, publishing a translation of George sand's drama "Claudie "("Pantheon", 1851, No. 11) and a translation of Victor Hugo's poem" Prayer for all "("Kharkiv provincial Vedomosti", 1852, August 9). After graduating from the University, he moved to Tambov, served as an official of special assignments for the Governor, edited the unofficial part of the Tambov provincial news (later he used the humorous pseudonym Heine from Tambov).

In 1858, he moved to Saint Petersburg. He became close to literary circles, in 1858-1859 led the section "Literary chronicle" in the "Library for reading", as an assistant to A.V. Druzhinin participated in the editing of the magazine, took part in the magazine"Svetoch". In 1860, together with A.V. Druzhinin, K. D. Kavelin and V. p. Bezobrazov, he began publishing the weekly magazine " Vek " and, at the same time, collaborated with the publication "Russian scene". His tactless feuilleton about E. E. Tolmacheva, who read "Egyptian nights" at a literary evening in Perm. Pushkin, thus as if violating all the rules of decency and decency, aroused the indignation of the democratic and liberal press. After the scandal connected with the feuilleton " Russian curiosities "in the magazine" Century", he was forced to leave the magazine (1862) and joined The main quartermaster's office. In 1866-1867 he headed the literary Department of the magazine "alarm Clock".

In 1868, Weinberg moved to Warsaw, where he was appointed Professor of Russian literature at the Main school, which was renamed the University of Warsaw in 1869. In Warsaw, from 1870, he edited the official newspaper "Warsaw diary", published" Russian folk songs about Ivan Vasilyevich the terrible " (1872). Dismissed from the post of editor in 1874, he returned to St. Petersburg. Until 1890, he served in the office of His Imperial Majesty's own office for the institutions of the Empress Maria. He led the permanent sections "news of foreign literature" and "Abroad" in the "St. Petersburg Vedomosti", collaborated in "Domestic notes" and other publications.

He was a member of the Theater and literature Committee, and in 1893 edited the "Theater newspaper". At the same time for many years he taught Russian and foreign literature on women's Higher educational courses and drama courses, Theatre school, five years was inspector of Kolomenskaya women's gymnasium, and later Director of the gymnasium and the real school of a name Y. G. Gurevich. In 1897-1901, he was Chairman of the Union of mutual assistance of Russian writers. At the end of his life, the Chairman of the Literary Fund. In 1905, he was elected an honorary academician.

He died on July 3 (16), 1908 in Saint Petersburg. Buried at Literatorskie Mostki at the Volkovo cemetery.]
