The poem "Poltava" tells about the significant events of the Peter's era, which played an important role in the history of Russia. In the center of the poem stands the majestic image of Peter I. "Poltava" is an enthusiastic hymn to the Russian Emperor, his creative genius, and his bold personality. In Pushkin's poem, Peter is contrasted with Charles XII with his adventurous aspirations for personal glory, and Mazepa with his greed and treachery.
