The book is dedicated to the steadfastness and heroism of women in Leningrad during the siege. The text is made up of essays, memoirs, and poems by writers, journalists, workers, and soldiers who survived the blockade, including Vera Inber, Nikolai Tikhonov, Vsevolod Rozhdestvensky, and others. It describes the heroic work of women in the rear - at the machine tools, on the railway, logging and peat development, and at the front, including in hospitals, construction teams, communication regiments, and trenches. The book was printed within three months of the final lifting of the blockade.
