המחבר רבי אליהו פוסק - [תרי"ט – תרצ"ב], כונה גם "גאון" ו"שר התורה". נולד לרב משה צבי פוסק אב"ד בצוויטנא–ווערשאק, שהיה מקורב לאדמו"ר רבי נחום ממקרוב.
שימש כמורה צדק בקהילת מוהייליווקי מחוז חרסון, היה רב עדה בעיר זלטופול, היה אבד"ק זריווקא וגם שימש כרב ואב בית הדין בעיר אלאפאליא שבפלך פודוליה.
רבי אליהו נודע כפוסק חשוב וחיבר ספרים רבים: שו"ת מר ואהלות, כורת הברית על הלכות מילה. מרבה תורה, אזלא גרש ועוד.
