Shaar Orah, Offenbach [1715]. Signature of the Author of "Kesef Nivchar"

Shaar Ohra authored by Rabbi Yosef Gikatilla, Offenbach 1715. The leaf following the title page bears the owner signature of Rabbi Baruch Bendet Goitein, Av Beit Din of Hogyesz, author of Kesef Nivchar.

Rabbi Baruch Bendet Goitein [1770-1841] was the Av Beit Din of Hogyesz. He received ordination from Rabbi Binyamin Wolf Boskowitz. He was later appointed dayan in the beit din of Rabbi Meir Eisenstadt where he served for 45 years, until his passing. In 1827, he published his only renowned work, Kesef Nivchar, which was printed in three sections, in Prague. The work discusses 160 topics in the Talmud and includes all the sources on the subject throughout the Talmud and words of the earlier and later sages. The book received approbations and praise from Maharam Mintz, Chatam Sofer and others. It quickly became a classic work in the Hungarian yeshivahs in subsequent generations. For ten years, he worked on a new edition of the book, but passed away before publishing it. Manuscripts of the second edition were lost during the Second World War.
