An antique late 19th-century painted plaster sculpture by John Rogers Factory. The piece represents an African-American cobbler shining a boot while assisting a young student with her reading. Titled Uncle Neds School on the base. Dated 1886 on the backside. John Rogers, 1829 to 1904, was an American sculptor known for his small genre sculptures, popularly termed Rogers Groups, which were mass-produced in cast plaster. A total of 80,000 copies of almost 80 Rogers Groups were sold across the United States and abroad. Collectible Sculpture And Decor, Americana.
