RUSSIAN ICON KAZAN MOTHER OF GOD IN 84 SILVER OKLAD
A Russian Orthodox travel icon of Mother Of God Kazanskaya. A mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood panel. The icon is overlaid with an 84 Silver oklad or riza, adorned with chased and engraved detailed patterns, and a traditional Greek ornament to the edge. Inscribed lower to the center on the riza. Marked with an Russian Silver standard hallmark, a makers mark, and other marks. The Kazan Icon of the Mother of God is a revered miraculous icon of the Mother of God, which appeared in Kazan in 1579. One of the most revered icons of the Russian Orthodox Church. Three Kazan icons became the most significant in Russian history: Appeared in Kazan, Moscow, and St. Petersburg. Circa: late 19th century.
