ATTR TO LOLO SOLDEVILLA CUBAN MIXED MEDIA PAINTING
Attributed to Lolo Dolores Nieto Soldevilla, Cuban, French, 1901 to 1971, mixed media, collage and crayon, painting on cardboard, Star Landscape Variation 3, depicting an abstract composition, 1961. Signed, and dated, lower right. Provenance: Miami Auctions. A paper label is on the backside. Lolo Soldevilla is known for Mixed media panels with geometric shapes. Lolo Soldevilla was a painter, sculptor, draftsman and Cuban engraver. She was one of the most important representatives of abstract geometric art in her country, and is considered a seminal figure in the promotion of Cuban Art, especially Concrete Cuban art abstraction with international influence. She strongly rejected nationalist figurative work of the Vanguardistas, which pushed for radical social reforms. Her methods included painting, drawing and collage.
