19TH CENTURY RUSSIAN MOTHER OF GOD KAZANSKAYA ICON
A Russian Orthodox icon of Mother Of God Kazanskaya. A mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wooden board. Inscribed in Church Slavonic in the upper part. The Kazan Icon of the Mother of God is a revered miraculous icon of the Mother of God, which appeared in Kazan in 1579. One of the most revered icons of the Russian Orthodox Church. Three Kazan icons became the most significant in Russian history: Appeared in Kazan, Moscow, and St. Petersburg. Circa: 19th century. Provenance: Kingham and Orme, 5th to 6th March, 2021, lot 343.
