The album is devoted to one of the sections of the Hermitage - the collection of jewellery of Western European and Russian craftsmen of the 16th-19th centuries. It includes only 100 pieces from a collection of several thousand pieces made of precious metals and stones. The basis of the Hermitage collection of jewellery was the Imperial Gallery of Precious Stuff, which stored items from the hands of the best jewellers in Europe. Some of the items were made on the orders of members of the royal family, while others were received as diplomatic gifts. The Gallery received not only the most expensive but also rare and valuable works of art. And so now, along with the abundance of gold, precious stones and the first articles of platinum, the Hermitage collection includes the best examples of their artistic treatment. The album will help visitors to take the first step towards admiring the masterpieces of jewellery art, which have always been a matter of great pride and prestige.
