Selected, the most "telling" about the Soviet-era photographic material, accompanied by texts of Alexander Vasilyev. The reader gets a picture of the everyday life of a Soviet man, portrayed through a photographic lens: where they lived, how they vacationed, how they dressed up for dances, parades and demonstrations, what images they created in theatre, film and on stage.
Why "without retouching"? Because retouching was mainly used to correct photos of officials. For example, when another party figure fell into disgrace, his hand, resting on the shoulder of his still unharmed comrade-in-arms, was shaded in the photograph so that it simply merged with his clothes. A bouquet of flowers suddenly appeared in place of the face of the newly minted enemy of the people.
Some photos were passed on to Alexander Vasiliev from his father, the artist Alexander Pavlovich Vasiliev, but the lion's share of the collection formed from what the author, being a Soviet schoolboy, found at flea markets, and much later - at flea markets in different countries. And someone himself brought Alexander his family photos, knowing how anxious he is about historical memory and how carefully he preserves it.
