8 rare group photographs of Dr. Moshe Wallach, founder of Shaare Zedek Hospital, alongside nurses and doctors at the hospital. In most of the photographs, Dr. Wallach is seen sitting next to Selma Meir, and other doctors and nurses. In the collection, a rare photograph of Meir from her youth. One of the group photographs was taken by Zadok Basan [signed with his Embossed stamp].
Selma Meyer known as "Schwester Selma" - "Selma nurse" was the head nurse at Shaare Zedek Hospital for over fifty years. She began working there when it was in the old Shaare Zedek building, on Jaffa Street in Jerusalem, and served as the right hand of the hospital's chief physician, Dr. Moshe Wallach. Meir worked at the hospital for long hours with poor equipment and infrastructure. Between 1916 and the 1930 she was responsible for the training and supervision of the entire hospital staff, and in 1934 she founded the Shaare Zedek School of Nursing. Over the years, she has been nicknamed the "Jewish Florence Nightingale" due to her long-standing dedication to the Sicks. Mayer has won countless awards and accolades for her work at the hospital, especially during his difficult hours during times of riots and national suffering Countless stories are known about her resourcefulness in 1929, during the massacre in Hebron Selma was the only nurse in the operating room. She decided to return to Jerusalem immediately. For three weeks, Selma petitioned the British Mandatory Government, the National Committee and the leaders of the underground to allow her to join one of the convoys leaving for the besieged city. Finally, she was allowed to board an armored car to Jerusalem, and many more.
