Magnificent photo album from President Yitzhak Ben - Zvi's official visit to Burma - October 1959
A large and magnificent photo album dedicated to President Ben Zvi and reviewing his official visit to the city of Rangoon, the capital of Maniamar (then 'Burma') on October 28, 1959.
The album contains 50 large photographs [31x26] cm. documenting the nine days that President Ben-Zvi visited Burma since leaving the country, arriving at Maniamar - at an official reception at Rangoon Airport in the presence of the President of Burma and his entourage, meetings with the President of Burma, Honorable visits to historic sites in Maniamar accompanied by the State Honor Guard, honorary dinners, Photographs of Betzen Zvi's wife - Rachel Yanait in the company of women government officials in Burma, and alongside her husband the president visiting important sites in the city, official ceremonies held in his honor in the city where Ben Zvi is seen speaking alongside Israeli and Maniamar flags, rare photographs of the Israeli flag fluttering over religious buildings In Maniamar ahead of the arrival of Ben Zvi, and more.
This was the first visit of the President of Israel to Maniamer, and he actually preceded the visit of the President of Maniamar to Israel. The famous visit was covered in the local press, see for example an article in the Haaretz newspaper dated October 28, 1959 which reports at length on this visit of the President.
