'How they lie' - a rare Pro-Nazi publication circulated to the German public against the anti - Nazi propaganda of the Allies. Berlin 1940

Wie sie luegen - 'How they lie' by Ernst Herbert Lehmann, Berlin 1940. only edition. A Pro-Nazi pamphlet distributed among the German public aimed at responding to Allied propaganda against Nazi Germany, and especially to the claim of the cruelty of the Furer and the German soldiers.

In a booklet, cartoons circulated in the world press against Nazi Germany, and an attempt to explain to the Germans the distortion in these cartoons, and that the reality as to the nature of the German soldiers, and the German leadership are completely different. For example, on page 16 there is a picture that appeared in a New York newspaper in which Jews are seen holding signs condemning Nazi Germany, holding a doll in the shape of a ridiculous straw of Adolf Hitler that they later burned during the demonstration. There, a comparison and presentation of the so-called real figure of the Furer, on the corresponding page there is a photo in which Hitler is seen shaking hands with young men and the antisemitic caption on the one hand and the fan of the Fuhrer on the other: "What does Jewish subhumanism know about the happiness of the real national community, what do these war criminals think, eagerly trying to incite the whole world against Nazi Germany ... The inseparable internal connection between the Fuhrer and the people is clearly seen in the picture: the Fuhrer speaks to German workers! They know they are in good hands". Similar on page 14, the so-called real figure of the Fuhrer and the sympathetic caption were displayed opposite each other: "We all know the Fuhrer's face, serious or cheerful are always kind and full of power ..." In front of a cartoon that shows Hitler in a rude and scary way, on the corresponding page:"This is how they present it. Every line in this picture is a lie. The weakness, and the lack of intellectuality of the painter in this picture speaks for itself ...".

The distributor of the booklet tries to attack one by one the allegations made against Nazi Germany, for example he presents the German invasion of the Sudetenland as met with sympathy from local residents in the form of excited women saluting the occupying Nazi army, and other allegations against Nazi Germany.

Some historians claim that anti-Nazi propaganda had no effect on German society. The booklet before us shows that this claim is fundamentally wrong. And that German propaganda had to invest thought and response to anti-Nazi propaganda, as it permeated well among the German population, who were forced to accept the authority of the Fuhrer out of necessity.
