GAY-LUSSAC JOSEPH: (1778-1850) French Chemist and Physicist. Known for his laws related to gases, and for the degrees Gay-Lussac used to measure alcoholic beverages. A.L.S., Gay-Lussac, two pages, 8vo, St Leonard, 9th April 1949, to Mr. Lefebvre, in French. Gay-Lussac writes to his correspondent asking for his benevolence, once more, regarding the admittance of a compatriot candidate to the polytechnic high school he wishes to recommend, stating `He is a very good student, with excellent literature studies, and I can assure you that his admittance will never cause you any trouble.´ With integral address leaf with small area of paper loss caused by the removal of the seal, not affecting the text or signature, otherwise VG.
