TUNNEY GENE: (1897-1978) American Boxer, World Heavyweight Champion 1926-28. T.L.S., Gene Tunney, one page, 4to, New York, 17th August 1935, to Walter A. Shanley. Tunney states that he remembers his correspondent calling at his office several times and continues to add that he shall be happy to recommend him to an employer but doesn't know of any vacancies at present, remarking 'If it is a matter of personal recommendation, I will be very happy to do whatever you wish me to
I will be very glad to keep you in mind, and if I happen to hear of anything I shall get in touch with you'. Tunney further reflects 'This depression has been a dreadful thing and I am in sympathy with those who have been caught in its throes. Many old friends of mine have been caught in it and I try in every way I can to help them'. Accompanied by the original envelope. VG
