Letter signed by the Mara d’Atra of Israel, the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Haim Zonenfeld. Jerusalem 1928
Typewritten letter on official letterhead of the Diskin Orphanage, from the 28th of Elul 1928, addressed to the donors Shlomo Steinberg and his wife Chana and their family in Boxburgh, in which the rabbis wish them a shana tov and thank them for their donation and update them on how it was used: “please accept our love and emotion which arose as a result of the hundreds of orphans who have been helped, may you be written and signed in the book of tzaddikim for a good life, may your eyes witness the building of Jerusalem, etc.” Signed are the three gabbayim as well as the official stamp of the institution, under which is the inscription “after everything that is above written we bless them for a shana tova, a year of life and peace and fulfillment of all their desires, Presidents of the House”, with signatures of the rabbis: “Yosef Haim Zonenfeld”, “Eliyahu Koltzin” (stamp in the shape of his signature), with the official stamp of “Av”d Lublin now in Jerusalem.” Folding creases, light defects, overall good condition.
Rabbi Yosef Haim Zonenfeld (1849-1933) was the Ga’avad of the Charedi community and a great sage of Israel.
