Fifty Dollar Bill Received from the Lubavitcher Rebbe – For Obtaining the Book Nachalat Ami for the Rebbe
The bill was given to Rabbi Shaul Shimon Deutsch, who wrote in the margins (in pen): “from the Admor shlita for the Sefer Nachalat Ami which Rabbi Chadkov requested I acquire on behalf of the Rebbe”.
Nachalat Ami (second section, chiddushim and exegeses of the Rambam on hilchot psuei hamukdashin), by Rabbi Emmanuel Yitzhak Grossberg, was published in a limited edition, in Bnei Brak, 1978. At the beginning of the 1980s it was still impossible to get a copy in the USA, and the Rebbe asked Rabbi Deutsch, who would search for books to be put in the Rebbe’s library, to get a copy for him. After he identified a copy and gave it to the Rebbe, the Rebbe gave him the bill.
Included is a signed certificate from Rabbi Shaul Shimon Deutsch in which he describes the event at length. A copy of Nachalat Ami is indeed located at the Rebbe’s library (Card #12466). Good condition, light wear.
