Sefer Torah in “Velish” script. German, end of the 18th century (approx.)
Sefer Torah, sofer script on parchment. Ashkenazi script following the Beit Yosef minhag (Velish: typical Sefardi script of Western Europe, a style popular among Ashkenazim influenced by the Sefardi Expulsion). Pretty, uniform script, stains and corrections, faded script, not sold as kosher. Matches Germany of the period.
Height of the parchment: 63cm. Height of the writing: 52.5cm. 55 lines per column.
Inside a matching case, wood covered in formica imitating white marble. The face has engravings of a menorah and Star of David inside Tablets. The inside has a dedication from 1970. Height: 91cm. Inside space height: 66cm. Missing a stand for one finial (rimon), one clasp is missing, otherwise good condition.
