Icon of the Mother of God Joy of all who Sorrow. Russia last third of XIX century.
圣天主之母圣像“所有哀悼者的欢乐”。俄罗斯，19 世纪后三分之一。
Wood, gold leaf, gesso, engraving on gesso, tooling, cut-back centre portion of the icon panel, counter strips of wood on the back of an icon. Dimensions 31х26.5 сm.
The icon presented is a copy of the image in the the Church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour on Ordynka (Moscow).
The Mother of God is shown here surrounded by poor people - naked, sick and hungry, as well as angels doing good deeds on Her behalf. The Intercessor herself is depicted on the icon, full-length, in royal vestment and with a crown on Her head. Above Her, seated in a cloudy segment, is Sabaoth, who blesses all those gathered around the Theotokos. The Mother of God in the image of the Queen of Heaven also stands on the cloud, holding in her right hand a scepter and in the left hand the Divine Child. Under the feet is a cartouche with the text of the Kontakion of the icon. Such a composition is derived from the Western European iconography "Gloria" (Glorification of the Mother of God).
Condition is satisfactory, there is old panel gluing in the vertical 1/4, a band at the top of the panel about 1 cm wide, representing traces of moisture exposure. Losses of the faces, hands and legs not covered by dress are toned in places.
