Автограф, по всей видимости, был написан Иосифом Бродским на его выступлении в Сан-Франциско 10 декабря 1988 года.
Второе издание сборника. Издательство Ардис специально выпустило в свет этот сборник, как единственный, который изначально был выпущен не этим издательством. Сборник «Остановка в пустыне» впервые был опубликован в США в издательстве имени Чехова в 1970 году. Сборник был составлен автором в России, и тексты стихотворений были тайно переправлены редакторам в Нью-Йорк. Бродский считал, что книга должна дать представление о том, чем являлось (согласно его взглядам на тот момент) собрание его зрелых работ. Издательство «Ардис» выпустило репринт сборника «Остановка в пустыне» в 1988 году, чтобы восполнить пробел в серии сборников стихотворений Бродского, вышедших в этом издательстве.
