General Gordon Holmes Alexander MacMillan was the last GOC (General Officer Commanding) of the British Mandate in Palestine.
Following the end of the British Mandate and the Declaration of the Establishment of the State of Israel (both on 14 May 1948), the pace of British withdrawal increased. MacMillan boarded a naval launch in Haifa that would take him to HMS Phoebe on 30 June 1948, the last man of the British Forces to leave Palestine.
