Yuri Petrovich Kugach (1917-2013). People's Artist of the USSR (1977). Laureate of the Stalin Prize of the second degree (1950) and the State Prize of the RSFSR named after I. E. Repin (1969).
In 1936 he graduated from the Moscow State Regional Art Pedagogical College of Fine Arts in memory of the 1905 uprising, teachers N.P. Krymov, K.F. Morozov. In 1942 - MGAHI named after V.I. Surikov in the workshop of S.V. Gerasimov, in 1945 - graduate school of MGAHI named after V.I. Surikov, teachers S.V. Gerasimov, N.H. Maksimov, I.E. Grabar.
The artist’s paintings are in the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, art museums of Russia, Ukraine, in private collections in Russia and abroad: in the USA, Germany, Spain, France, Japan.
