19th c. Asian Wooden Traveler's Chest
19th-20th century wooden traveler's chest, possibly Chinese or Japanese, with metal fittings and painted and incised decorations throughout including floral and foliate motifs and a phoenix along the lid. The chest is of a hexagonal barrel form. The lid lifts open and there are two doors along the bottom.
Height: 37 1/2 in x width: 22 in x depth: 20 in.
Condition: The lid and doors open and close well. Splits to the wood throughout. The lacquer is darkened and there are losses to the painted decoration. The chest is slightly warped and is not even on each side. The chest is overall structurally sound and stable. No major losses.
