Handwritten notebook with divrei torah and chiddushim on sugiyot of Shas in Masechet Gittin by the Gaon Rabbi Moshe of Khust (the Maharam Shik). A few different types of writing are discernible, probably written by his students who were listening to his lessons. We have not checked whether these chiddushim were every published. 60 handwritten pages, stains, overall good condition.

The Gaon Rabbi Moshe Shik (Maharam Shik, 1805 or 1807 – 1879) was the son of Rabbi Yosef, Av Beit Din and Rosh Yeshiva of Yargin and Khust. He was the student of the Chatam Sofer, who nicknamed him “Meiner Aron Sefarim” (my bookcase). It is also accepted though unproven that he desired him to wed his daughter. He also succeeded his rabbi in continuing the uncompromising fight against the Reform movement. He wrote about them: “According to the law of our holy Torah, since they have blasphemed against the Torah, testified by many of their writings and texts, they are not to be considered Jews but rather as complete goyim.” He was the leader of Hungarian Jewry after the Chatam Sofer. After his death they eulogized him saying “From Moshe (the Chatam Sofer) to Moshe (Maharam Shik) another Moshe will not arise”. His books, Shut and Chiddushim on Shas, decorate the bookcase of the Torah world.
