Signature and date at bottom right. The work was donated by the author to Ivan Petrovich Pikulev, a writer, director of the publishing house "Soviet Writer" during the Second World War, who was the head of the publishing department of the USSR Academy of Arts. From the collection of I.P. Pikuleva.

Ostroumova-Lebedeva Anna Petrovna (1871, Petersburg – 1955, Leningrad).

Full member of the USSR Academy of Arts. People’s Artist of the RSFSR. Decorated with the medal of the International Exhibition in Paris (1937)Studied in the School of Baron Stieglitz, in 1900 graduated from the Higher School of Arts attached to the Academy of Arts (dept. of engraving). Studied under I.E. Repin and P.P. Chistyakov. In 1898-1899 she studied in the workshop of J. Whistler in Paris. Master of city landscapes. Main topics of her creative work were Leningrad and its suburbs. The revival of Russian xylography is connected with the activities of A. Ostroumova-Lebedeva. Works by the artist are kept in the State Tretyakov Gallery and the State Russian Museum, in many regional museums and in private collections abroad.
