Iggeret HaKodesh - Sefer HaTanya, Extraordinarily Rare Edition. [Chernowitz, 1860?]
Iggeret HaKodesh from Sefer HaTanya, printed as a book in its own right. Printed in Chernowitz between 1849 and 1860. Extraordinarily important and rare edition, that to the best of our knowledge has never been put up for auction.
Text of the title page: Iggeret HaKodesh by the rabbi, the gaon, wonder of the generation and its glory, the G-dly Rabbi Shneur Zalman ... author of Sefer HaTanya ... printed in Sulzbach." Despite the title page stating that the book was printed in Sulzbach with a date that works out to 1786, bibliographers estimate that the book was printed in Chernowitz in 1860 or slightly earlier. At the National Library, they assume that it was printed in 1849, and in Ginzei Yisrael, they date this edition 1850-1860.
32 leaves, 17.5 cm. Sha'arei Chaba"d 87, Mondshine, Sefer HaTanya, parts that were printed on their own, Ginzei Yisrael-Osef Mehlman 1174. Especially rare book.
Fine-very fine condition: Minimal aging stains and tiny tears in the white margins. Semi-leather binding and marbleized paper, new.
