В 1910 году Анна Павлова, создав собственную труппу, отправилась в кругосветное балетное турне, выступая с такими партнерами, как Михаил Мордкин и Лаврентий Новиков. В апреле 1910 года состоялось первое выступление Павловой в Лондоне. Англичане считали, что стали свидетелями сенсации века «Видели ли вы Павлову?» — эта фраза употреблялась чуть ли не вместо приветствия.
