PEUGEOT-JACKSON ARCHIVE: An important archive related to the Peugeot-Jackson steelmakers family, containing over 200 documents, including over 130 letters, mostly autograph letters by William Jackson to his wife Louise Peugeot, while travelling all over the world, and his wife«s letters to him, all of them dated between 1938 and 1958. The archive also includes contracts, certificates, meeting reports, contemporary newspapers articles, and all kind of documents related to the Jackson Brothers & Peugeot industrialist family. The William Jackson«s letters report basically on three main matters, being the Company management day by day, the search of raw materials, and the family interpersonal tensions. The letters state in part, 22nd March 1845, `I am introducing myself to all these important persons as a real ''Gentleman''. Before yesterday during the main meeting I proved and convinced all present people that it is extremely easy to distinguish molten steel from ordinary steelÉ«, further saying on 29th March 1845, `I announce you and all House family members about my complete success. Prices have not been changed.. It is a complete victory.. you will see the European reputation we will get later..« On 30th November 1851, from Bastia, he states `I am going to the Isle of Elbe, full of hope, expecting to be able to obtain the raw material at a favourable price.. The more I get used to deal with Toga in Corsica, the more I expect a success which will surpass our predictions..« Further saying on 29th February 1852 `Everybody here on the island consider our arrival with happiness, they know we are serious people who will bring huge industry to local economy..« Furthermore, on 11th June 1852, referring to the liquidation of the factories `Because Charles is even more hated than myself, I must attend the meeting, fortunately Mr. de la Bouillerie accepts to go with me in order to get John and James« signatures..« A very important archive containing over 120 letters of interesting content. G,200 £4000-6000 William Stackhouse Jackson (1796-1858) British Industrialist, steelmaker. Together with his brothers and fathers, the Jackson family is considered a steelmaker pioneer in France. In 1838 William, the elder, married Louise Peugeot, and became associated to the Peugeot family which at that time were manufacturing saw blades, tools and coffee grinders. Sophie Louise Peugeot Jackson (1811-1878) Granddaughter of the Peugeot Company founder, and great grandaunt of Armand Peugeot, founder of the automobile factory.
