ALEXANDER I: (1777-1825) Emperor of Russia 1801-25, the first Russian King of Poland 1815-25. Fine A.L.S., Alexander, one page, 4to, mourning paper, Saint Petersburg, 3rd August 1801, to General Clark, in French. Alexander I responds to a letter received from General Clark, which was sent to his recently dead father Emperor Paul I. The Tsar states `General de Sprenztporten has delivered to me, Citizen Clark, the drawings of the French army uniforms which were intended to be sent to the Emperor. I am sensitive to this attention and have instructed my aide-de-camp Prince Dolgorouki to transmit to you a token of my satisfaction..´ With very small remnants of former affixing to the verso, otherwise VG £1500-2000
The present letter is written on mourning paper as a result of the recent death of Emperor Paul I (1754-1801) father of Alexander I who was assassinated in March 1801.
