LAVAL PIERRE: (1883-1945) French Politician, Prime Minister of France 1931-32 & 1935-36. He further served in Vichy´s Regime following France´s defeat in 1940, and as Head of Government 1942-44. After the Liberation of France, Laval was arrested, accused of collaboration with the enemy in a trial full of faults, and executed by firing squad. Rare A.L.S., `Pierre Laval´, one page, 8vo, Paris, 15th September 1924, to Jean Farger, in French. Laval, on the Deputies´ Chamber printed stationery, regrets not being able to attend his correspondent´s invitation and states in part `..being retained on that same date by previous commitments..´ Autograph letters by Pierre Laval are rare and desirable.
