LECLERC DE HAUTECLOCQUE PHILIPPE: (1902-1947) French General during WWII. Appointed Marshal of France posthumously. Leclerc was killed in an air crash in Algeria. In May 1945 he was given command of the French Far East Expeditionary Corps. He represented France at the surrender of Japan. T.L.S., `Le Clerc´, one page, 4to, Saigon, 14th November 1945, in French. Leclerc arrived in Saigon with a first contingent of French soldiers a month earlier, on 5th October 1945. The document bears the typed heading ''Head Commandment of the French Troops in the Far East - The General Leclerc'', and reports on Lieutenant Poydenot satisfactory services. Signed at the base by Leclerc over an attractive ink stamp stating ''Le General - Corps Expeditionnaire Extreme Orient''. Together with D.S., on behalf of General Leclerc, by Lieutenant Colonel, three pages, 4to, in French. The partially typed document being the memory of Lieutenant Poydenot, with lengthy written reports, stating in part `..despite the very hard war conditions he created an organization which has worked perfectly…wounded in September 1945, in Saigon..´ Small overall age wear.
