Lengthy and Important Halachic Letter from Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook to Rabbi Gershon Lapidot, with his Handwriting and Signature. Signed Autograph
Lengthy and important halachic letter [4 leaves] by the chief rabbi of Israel, the gaon Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook, to the Yerushalmi gaon, Rabbi Gershon Lapidot, on the topic of Land-of-Israel dependent mitzvahs - destruction of terumah. Jerusalem, 1933.
The letter before us deals with whether instead of destroying terumah in the traditional fashion (pouring) - if the terumah can be chemically destroyed. A small part (less than one page) of the letter before us was printed in Yakar HaErech (pp. 352). And the halachic conclusion from this letter is also printed in few words, in Rabbi Kook's bookֲ Mishpat Kohen (pp. 392). Yet almost the entire letter was never published. Rabbi Kook reveals his genius and proficiency in all aspects of Torah, along with the appropriate conclusions necessary for our times, combined with issues of medicine and science. One the reasons upon which he hinges being lenient is to not awaken resentment in the colonies - the apple of his eye. He also mentions rabbinic leaders of the generation in his letter, such as his father-in-law, the Adere"t, and the leader of the zealots, Rabbi Yehudah Leib Diskin, who Rabbi Kook refers to in his letter as "HaGaon HaKadosh."
[4] leaves official stationery. 27 cm. Typewritten with the addition of [20] words in Rabbi Kook's handwriting, with his signature. Fine condition. Aging stains and fold marks.
