Lot of 2 books of chassidut from printings of Shoah survivors: Agalei Tal, first section | Masechet Avot with the Sfat Emet—Germany 1948-9
1. Agalei Tal on the halachot of Shabbat, first section, by the Admor Rabbi Avrahm of Sochotchov, the Avnei Nezer. With additions from his son, the Shem MiShmuel. Cover states that it was printed in Pietrekov in 1931, but after the cover it states “printed in Germany in 1949”, and later appears a list of those killed hy”d—the goal was to spread awareness and honor the memory of those murdered. Cover in red ink, with the inscription “Moga” on the blank first page, with the note of ownership: “from the books of Dov Sternbuch.” [3], 286 pages. Stained binding, generally good condition.
2. Masechet Avot with Sfat Emet, from Maran Yehuda Aryeh Leib of Gur. Second edition, Landesberg 1948, a facsimile of the first Pietrekov edition of 1933. The back of the cover has the emotional inscription: “Published for a second time by the Avrechs and Bachurs of Chassidei Gur in Landesburg, may we merit redemption and to move to Zion and to be covered by the shade of Maran Admor of Gur in Jerusalem.” The facing page has printed the content of a letter from the Imrei Emet to Rabbi Avraham Issachar Binyamin, the author’s grandson, short as was his wont, with instructions regarding the book. [1], 57 pages (114 sides).
Rabbi Dov Sternbuch of Gateshead and Bnei Brak was the son of Rabbi Asher of London, a descendent of the Gra. He was a huge talmid chacham who knew the Shas by heart. He was close with many sages, and was a student of the Gra”a Dessler. He had a special relationship with Maran Rabbi Haim Kanievsky, who forbid him from asking those at his beit midrash not to stand in his honor. He was brother of the Ra’avad of Antwerp, Rabbi Eliyahu Sternbuch, and the Ra’avad of the Charedi community, Rabbi Moshe Sternbuch. Died in 1990 when he was on his way to Minchah, aged 96.
