"Knizhny Vestnik" was a critical-bibliographic and bookselling magazine published in St. Petersburg in 1860-1867. Frequency-2 times a month. Publications - materials on book business, lists of published books, reviews of new books, etc.
The journal "Knizhny Vestnik" was founded in 1860 by Y. M. Bogushevich. In different years editors were N. A. Senkovsky, N. S. Kurochkin. The first issue appeared in April 1860.
Bogushevich saw the main purpose of the publication in giving the opportunity to " find out exactly what has appeared new in Russian literature on the subject of interest to him (the reader), what has even been done by literature and what is yet to be done."
The current bibliographic registration was published on the pages of the "Book Bulletin", lists of published books in Russian and the language of the peoples of Russia were printed (books published in foreign languages were counted only in a few numbers). The first issues, in addition to the list of books, contained annotations and reviews, the number of which subsequently decreased significantly, reviews of periodicals, literary criticism. In addition, the magazine contained lists of booksellers, printers and libraries of St. Petersburg and Moscow, as well as articles on the development of librarianship, filling library collections.
The magazine contained three sections: "Bibliography", "Criticism" and " Mixture "(contained news, questions and letters from readers). The last two came out irregularly.
