Shtranikh Vladimir Fedorovich (1888, Tsaritsino vil., Moscow pr. – 1981, Moscow).

Honored artist of the USSR (1978), a Corresponding member of the Academy of Fine Arts. A painter, graphic-artist, stage designer. Graduated from Moscow Painting, Sculpture and Architecture College under the tutelage of A. Vasnetsov, A. Arkhipov, S. Malutin, L. Pasternak, K. Korovin. After the October Revolution worked in Smolensk. Took an active part in city culture life, headed Proletcult (Proletarian Culture) art studio. He brought up a lot of famous painters: K. Dorokhov, M. Khazanov, N. Padalitsin. In 1922 moved to Moscow and became one of the leading Moscow painters in the 1930s. A special place in the artist’s paintings was devoted to the Russian Navy (“Before the regatta”, “On the guard of the Motherland”). One Man show was held in Smolensk in 1959. The paintings by Shtranikh are exhibited in the Smolensk Art Museum.
