Period of Maximilian II, King of Bavaria (1848 - 1864). Gilt hilt with lion head pommel, mother of pearl grip scales with gilt plaque bearing the cipher of Maximilian, clam shell guard depicting a lion, diamond cut blade is decorated with chiseling, gilt, and bluing (bluing is mostly worn out), blade is marked by Samuel Hoppe, Solingen, a beehive stamped mark. Stitched leather scabbard with gilt brass mount.
