Group of [8] letters on different topics, and from different periods, by the gaon Rabbi Yonatan Steif, Av Beit Din of Budapest.
Rabbi Yonatan Steif [1877-1958] was a dayan in Budapest and one of the leading adjudicators in the United States. He was a disciple of the author of Shevet Sofer (son of the Ktav Sofer and grandson of the Chata"m Sofer). He was appointed as a dayan in Ungvar in 1912. Later, in 1923, he moved to Budapest, where he served as head of the Beit Din. He was rescued during WWII on the Kastner train. After the War, he immigrated to the United States, where he served as a lecturer in the Nitra yeshivah (of Rabbi Michael Dov Ber Weissmandel), and then he served as Av Beit Din in Kehal Adas Yereim-Vienna. He was also vice president of the Rabbinical Association. He authored many books, including: Chadashim Gam Yeshenim on Shas, the Limudei Hash-m chumash, Mitzvot Hash-m, and two books on the seven Noachide laws. Shu"t Mahar"i Steifֲ was published posthumously. Rabbi Moshe Feinstein admired him very much and even referred to him as "Gadol HaDor."
